Longtime LCH member,
Don Steer
Don passed away on Friday, March 23, 2007. He was 79, and a huge supporter of Limestone Creek Hunt. In recent years he has been an honorary member, and one of our faithful hunt followers, his black pickup part of the Sunday road lineup. Don was a mentor to many newer club members, and always there to help with the hounds. He's been an LCH member since the 50s, serving the Club as a whip, as historian, and in other capacities as well.
Don was also active in other horse concerns, serving as track marshall at Vernon Downs, training Standardbreds, and participating in and organizing several of the early driving competitions at Lorenzo in Cazenovia, New York. Don was also involved in local polo for several decades, including riding with the Cazenovia Polo Club team and the early Skaneateles Polo Club team. In recent weeks Don had been working with Morrisville College to establish the Laura Janson Scholarship, to support the development of young equestrians, and contributions in his name can be made there in his name:
MCF Laura Janson Scholarship, 101 Bailey Hall, Morrisville NY 13408. Online contributions to the scholarship fund can be made at www.morrisville.edu/mcf.
Our sympathies to Don's wife Mary, and his children and their families.
